I glue the crack shut, then fill any small gaps with more super glue. Super glue tends to work well on old plastics. The case on this clock was plastic, and I fixed the crack (not shown) on the back with super glue. Upon removing the case, I found the set of gears that had popped out of place, popped them back in, and the clock has now been running constantly (and keeping perfect time) for the past 3-4 years. ![]() It is an old General Electric clock from the '50's, and refused to run when plugged into the wall, On the back of the case was a large crack, indicating it had been dropped. The clock if the photo below is a good example. If a case is cracked or broken, quite often a gear train has popped loose inside the clock. The first thing I do when I look at a clock is to look for evidence of damage to the case. This Instructable won't make you an expert in clock repair, nor will it cover the details of clock repair, but I will try to go over what I generally find wrong with these old clocks and how I get them running. And, if it can't be fixed, AND it is of a style that is interesting, it can always be converted to a quartz movement, but I only do that as a last resort. What I have learned over the years is an old clock can generally be fixed - often very easily. Why clocks? First, the mechanical nature of old clocks intrigues me - I mean they have gears, and sprockets, and springs, and levers - all sorts of neat stuff that, when working as designed, actually captures the passage of time! Second, except for rare expensive clocks, when an old clock quits working, most people assume it is done for. I love to frequent flea markets and the challenge of fixing that which others have thought unfixable.ĭuring my outings I'm always on the lookout for an old clock, particularly old alarm clocks and mantle clocks. He also thanked the Recording Academy, the Celemony team, the company’s many friends and, of course, all the users of the software Melodyne. In his acceptance speech, Peter Neubäcker alluded to his philosophical and mathematical background, explained his own, singular vision of music, and described the beginnings and the spirit of the company. After all, Celemony has blazed open a radically new avenue of access to musical editing that for ten years now has made it impossible to imagine music production without it. Host and Grammy manager James McKinney opened with the legendary question posed long ago by Melodyne inventor Peter Neubäcker: “What does a stone sound like?” A truly philosophical approach to the world of sound technology, far away from the purely technical thought-processes that typically prevail in the industry, and yet it is for precisely that reason Celemony was chosen to receive this year’s Technical Grammy. The first of the Special Merit Awards to be presented went to the Munich software house Celemony. And perhaps also the strangest,” commented Melodyne inventor Peter Neubäcker. I believe our company is the smallest ever to have received a Technical Grammy. “This is an honor none of us ever expected. The highest award in the music business is given in recognition of “contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field” and is equivalent to an Oscar in the film industry. Plugged them in to a few older Insteon M.S. I have started to use the Walmart branded *blue label* 9 VDC batteries but have found them to be so so. If the costs weren't so high I would probably be using them in every device I own. The lithium type from Energizer however has provided great long term (low temperature) performance in many items I use without issues. Haven't used the standard Energizer primary cells for decades so don't have any factual long term experience to say if they will leak. Fast forward to 2020 I have personally moved away from Duracell and started using Energizer as the battery of choice. I have been using Duracell for more than 35 years and in a lot of the facilities where I managed this brand was spec'd. One brand ran 11.5v and damaged a MS I already. I have tried a few Lithium 9v brands now and they don't last any longer in MS Is so they 4 x price is not warranted either. No complaints yet but I date them all the last few years. I am testing out Walmart's generic brand on them. Right now I am stocked up on the Kirkland brand at about half the price. I have never had problems with Ray-o-Vac yet but then Duracell was the best at one time too. Likely the same old one but launched a cheaper line. I haven't looked in other stores but Costco started selling these cheaper Duracell batteries at the same time Duracell announced a new and improved version. Though I suppose they could have also been counterfeit from who knows where. Those where written off as toss them and don't trust that brand again. Go bad as dead or leaking in the blister pack. I have Ravovac batteries that still had years on the date. I have had some Panasonic batteries do similar things. ![]() Volunteers and members through the years who love the arts have preserved it for today and we, the current members are committed to maintaining and preserving the house for the appreciation and development of fine arts in Woodburn and the surrounding communities for the future.
